Japanese Crochet Pattern: Frame Motif (Chart Included)

A crochet charm made from two single crochet motifs.
I designed it with a window, like a little photo frame.

You could attach a pin to the back to make a brooch, or use it as a name tag or keychain.

The pattern includes charts for three frame shapes: rectangle, oval, and triangle.

The pink sample was made with a 3.0 mm hook because the yarn was a bit thicker; the others were made with a 2.5 mm hook.

The multicolored yarn in the rectangular frame at the top left is linen, and the other samples were crocheted with wool.
The pattern lists the yarn I used most in the samples.

Once your motif is finished, what will you put inside the frame?
For the samples, I used craft materials like jacquard ribbon and pieces of cut leather.
Your favorite fabric or paper would work well too.

The finished frame is fairly soft, so if you want it firmer, placing a piece of plastic sheet or cardboard behind the material inside makes a big difference.

For heavier use, like a name tag, it's a good idea to also glue down the inner edge of the frame so it holds up well.
