Japanese Crochet Pattern: Mesh Tank Top (Chart Included)

This is a crochet top that can be worn like a tank top or a vest.
The fabric is made with filet crochet, giving it a clean and simple design.

Filet crochet works up quickly, so for those who are experienced or like to focus and knit intensively, it might be completed in just 1–2 days!

In the sample piece, the front and back lengths are slightly different, but making them the same length is easy.
Instructions for adjusting the length and width are also included in the pattern.

Since it can be crocheted relatively quickly for a wearable item, it could be fun to make several in different colors or lengths to coordinate outfits.


For this piece, I used Daruma's "Linen Ramie Cotton Fingering".

I was torn between light gray, but the white turned out just right. While many whites tend toward beige or off-white, this one is neither pure white nor yellowish. When viewed in the skein, it has a subtle, almost grayish neutral tone that gives it a nice depth.
The texture is just right — neither too stiff nor too soft — making it perfect for this project.

I initially estimated needing 3 skeins, but happily, I was able to complete it with just 2 skeins, with a little yarn leftover. Being able to finish with only 2 skeins may also give an idea of how quickly it can be completed. If you plan to adjust the length or width, be sure to have a little extra yarn on hand.

This tank top is based on filet crochet, so the stitches are simple.
The edging is also a straightforward repeating pattern, allowing you to crochet without getting lost.

It uses a few front post single crochet stitches, so I reduced it by one star from "Mostly basic technique," but I still think it's an easy-to-crochet piece.

If you crochet intensely, the fabric progresses steadily, making this pattern perfect for "fast crocheting" sessions!
