Every winter, ribbed crochet items are something I can’t resist making.
This year, I created a pair of hand warmers.
This pattern can be worked without joining new yarn.
I experimented with several ways to attach the thumb and chose the one that produced the neatest finish.
The size can be easily adjusted, so you can make them fit snugly or a bit loosely depending on your preference.
You can adjust the size as you go, after the fabric has started to take shape.
For the sample piece, I used DK yarn, so it worked up fairly quickly — I was able to complete one hand in about a day, even without rushing..
It might even make it in time as a last-minute handmade gift.

The yarn used for this piece is Natural Alpaca DK from Yuzawaya.
It’s very soft and pleasant to the touch, and wonderfully warm!
Every time I try it on, I can already imagine it being perfect for keeping my hands cozy in the cold.
As the name suggests, the shades are natural colors, making them versatile and easy to use, and they are all lovely.
If you prefer, you could try using a lighter yarn, such as sport weight — the fabric and the ribbing would be finer, which could also look very cute.
It would also be fun to try with sock yarn or similar.
While imagining hand warmers peeking out from under coat sleeves on a chilly day, I found myself looking forward to actually wearing them.
Since this is a small accessory you can enjoy looking at yourself, I encourage everyone to find the color that you love best.

This piece uses a textured stitch pattern, but the actual technique is quite simple.
Step-by-step instructions with images are included, so please refer to those as well.
The thumb attachment section can be a bit tricky to represent in the chart, but it doesn’t involve any complicated stitches.
The first pair was completed faster than expected, which makes me want to crochet one more as a pop of color for this winter.
I hope everyone will enjoy creating the ribbed design easily with crochet.
