Airy Crochet Socks

These airy crochet socks are designed for summer, featuring a breathable mesh texture that keeps your feet feeling light and comfortable.

Although they are a type of foot cover, I designed them with the shape of sneaker socks in mind.

The crochet mesh peeking out slightly from your sneakers adds a charming detail to your outfit. It’s also fun to play with colors and coordinate them with your shoes.

Their compact size makes them easy to tuck into your bag, so you can enjoy wearing sandals while keeping a pair handy for those unexpected moments when you need to take off your shoes.

A close, comfortable fit makes these socks a pleasure to wear, so I’ve provided four sizes to help you find the best fit possible. The pattern is also designed to be easy to adjust.

The largest size may also work as a small men’s size.

I normally wear 22.5 cm shoes and wear the smallest, Size 1. Don’t worry about the length of the foot—the length can be easily adjusted as you crochet.

The size you choose from the four sizes determines the fit around the opening and the width of the foot.

For those with a higher instep and narrower feet, I’ve also included adjustment suggestions in the pattern to help you achieve a more secure fit.

Please feel free to try on your sock as you work and make adjustments along the way to find the most comfortable fit for you.

The next two photos compare Size 1 and Size 3.

For this project, I used Daruma Trad Cotton, a 100% cotton yarn. Approximately two balls are needed.

Its rounded, sturdy texture makes it especially well suited to socks. It feels smooth and comfortable against the skin when worn.

With a wide range of colors to choose from, picking your favorite color is part of the fun, too.

For something worn on the feet, I prefer a fabric that feels slightly firm and sturdy. I used a 3.0 mm crochet hook for my sample, but if you tend to crochet loosely, you may want to use a smaller hook to achieve a slightly tighter fabric. If you do, please keep the change in gauge in mind when choosing your size.

Crochet Techniques Used in This Pattern

The pattern mainly uses basic crochet techniques, and video tutorials are provided for the parts that can be difficult to explain clearly in words.

If you’re comfortable with the basic crochet stitches, you should be able to work through the pattern smoothly with the help of the video tutorials at key points.
