Japanese Crochet Pattern: Pocket Tissue Case (Chart Included)

A crochet tissue case made by putting motifs together.

The pattern lets you make covers in two sizes: one for regular travel tissue packs and one for mini tissue packs for kids.
Make one in each size for a matching parent-and-child set.

This is a slightly improved version of a pattern I offered before the shop was renewed.

The layers overlap generously so the opening where you pull out the tissues doesn't gape.

The design combines simple double crochet motifs, so I had fun playing with color.
For the samples, I chose bright neon colors!
It would also look lovely worked in a single color without changing yarn for the border, or in natural tones.

It's made with fingering weight yarn, so it may be a good way to use up leftover yarn you have on hand.

For the white yarn I used Hamanaka Piccolo, and for the neon colors, Opal.
Piccolo gives a nice, soft, plump thickness.
It comes in lots of colors, so it's easy to find one you like.

Kids' mini tissue packs often come in packaging so cute you buy them just for that, so it feels like a bit of a shame to cover it up. But a case might save you from the "the wrapper's torn and the tissues are about to fall out!" situation.

The mini tissue pack in the photo below is one I had as a child. I was so happily surprised to find it still on sale that I bought it on the spot.

Since it's such a practical item, it would also be fun to make as a gift, taking your time choosing the colors.
